JANUARY 23,   the web-site of the Ministry of Regional Development of Ukraine published the Draft Law “On the Nation-Wide Program for the Development and Reconstruction of the Centralised Sewage System in Populated Areas of Ukraine for 2012-2020”.

The purpose of the program is to provide high quality sewage services to the citizens of Ukraine, to improve the legal framework and create the favourable environment for the sustainable development of sewage and drain and manufacturing water treatment systems in cities and towns.  

The document includes an action plan to increase the efficiency of sewage and drain and manufacturing water treatment systems, whereby:

•  cities will improve drain water treatment technologies and technologies to treat rain and snow waters;
•  cities will introduce manufacturing and drain waters treatment quality control;
•  cities will modernise their sewage engineering networks and pumping stations;
•  cities will have better laws and regulations for the sewage sector;
• cities will have an opportunity to reuse the treated waters and recycle the sediments into organic fertilizers.
