Mykolaiv is one of the important industrial, transport, scientific and cultural centers of southern Ukraine, is the administrative center of the Mykolaiv region, as well as the Mykolaiv district and the Mykolaiv urban territorial community.
Mykolaiv is a logistics hub of southern Ukraine. The city is located in southern Ukraine near the Black Sea coast, washed by the Ingul and Southern Bug rivers.
The city has the potential for establishing and developing various types of recreational businesses, including the creation of marinas and sustainable transformation of the city of Mykolaiv for the transition to a blue economy. All natural conditions contribute to this - an extensive coastline of 137 km, a large number of coastal areas - 958 hectares, a short distance to the Black Sea - 65 km, the possibility of using the navigable part of the Southern Bug river.
The economic potential of Mykolaiv is characterized by a diversified industry, an extensive transport network and a developed port economy. In addition, the city has a developed network of market infrastructure, financial institutions, educational, healthcare and cultural institutions.
Industry occupies an important place in the local economy both in terms of the formation and development of the labor market and filling budgets of all levels through tax payments. The industrial complex of the city of Mykolaiv is moderately concentrated in terms of major enterprises and industries. The leading industries of the city are mechanical engineering, food industry and the supply of electricity, gas, steam and conditioned air.
The strategic industry of the city of Mykolaiv remains the transport complex. The city has sea and river ports, a powerful railway junction, a bus station and bus stations, a public transport system, and an international airport and airfield are located near the city.
The city of Mykolaiv is a port city. The city's water transport is represented by three sea ports and one river port (today the activity of the ports is limited due to the armed aggression of the russian federation).
On March 24, 2022, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine, in order to commemorate the feat, mass heroism and resilience of citizens shown in the defense of their cities during the repulsion of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the city was awarded the title "Hero City of Ukraine"
