Additional peculiarities of the municipality:

The municipality is located in the southwestern part of Lviv region, on the border with the Republic of Poland. Total area: 33,691.9 hectares; 26 settlements (1 town, 1 urban-type settlement, and 24 villages);population: 19 600. Administrative center – the town of Staryi Sambir, situated 92 km from Lviv and 17 km from the district center, the city of Sambir.

Through the territory of the municipality flows river called Dnister and also smaller rivers. There is a railway line  Lviv-Uzhgorod and main state roads H-13 Lviv-Uzhgorod and T-14-01 Smilnytsya-Staryi Sambir, which heading to the border with Poland.

Staryi Sambir is ah ancient town. First written mention about town was in 1071.

The territory is rich in forests, there are oil deposits, salt was once mined here. The area of forests is 54% of the total area, dominated by spruce, pine, oak, fir, beech, hornbeam.

Very nice natural landscapes of the Carpathians, the presence of natural mineral springs that have therapeutic value, create favorable conditions for the development of a resort network and a base for recreation. Natural resources are the factor that determines the recreational use of the territory.

Environmental conditions are another strong point. The high natural potential of the district creates prerequisites for the advantages of ecological functions in comparison with other regions of the state, in particular, in the means of protecting clean water, unique natural monuments, and the economic use of ecological functions. Significant deposits of mineral waters, wonderful landscapes, etc., are interesting from the point of view of tourism and local history.

There are a lot of historical places and 2 Nature parks.

One of the main historical landmarks is the Lavriv Monastery of Saint Onuphrius. It is among the few that have been functioning on the territory of Ukraine since the times of the Kyivan Rus and is classified as a monument of national cultural heritage of Ukraine.
